UNIVERSITY FOR MUSIC AND PERFORMING ARTS IN VIENNA

The University for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna (MDW) is one of the biggest art universities in the world. The university is offering a wide range of educational possibilities in the area of music and performing arts. High level of education is provided thanks to the continuing educational and scientific research.

Its graduates are year by year accepted to play in prominent orchestras and show the top results in different world competitions. Students of performing arts have also been awarded in recent times with significant awards. University teachers and scientists are welcome to give lectures at world congresses and publish in reputable periodicals.

M.A.E.D.
(MUSIC ANALYSIS AND EXILE DOCUMENTATION RESEARCH CENTER)
Scientific centre at Vienna music university (MDW)

M.A.E.D. was established by Prof. Dr. Gerold Gruber in 2007 as a scientific centre at the Institute for Analysis, Theory and History of Music (MDW). Within 2009, 2010 it organized following activities: The international conference of the “Word and Music Association”, The Bohuslav Martinu Festival with a cooperation of the Czech Centre in Vienna, The International Film Music Symposium Vienna, and a conference on Marcel Proust´s influence on new music.

With a cooperation of the charity organization exil.arte M.A.E.D. examines and documents the musical heritage of exiled composers and created a database of musical works. In a cooperation with the Arnold Schönberg Centre M.A.E.D. has co-created a critical edition on Schönberg´s works (25 volumes). M.A.E.D. also publishes a yearbook on exiled composers and prepares to publish a “Dictionary on Musical Forms”.

COLLEGIUM MUSICUM
(MDW)

Collegium musicum MDW was established in 2004 by Prof. Ingomar Rainer at the Department for Historical Music Practices at MDW. Its members are students, graduates and lectors of MDW. The mission of the ensembles is to perform music of different epochs in the authentic form which means that music should be performed according to style and technical interpretation of its time. In these Early Music compositions historical instruments are often used. The repertoire consists of 17th to 20th century music. It performs in different music formations from duo to chamber orchestra. The Collegium musicum has introduces itself with its opera productions in “Schönbrunner Schlosstheater“, with its own programs in the Wiener Musikverein, with baroque music in the Palais Liechtenstein, with modern music in the Arnold Schönberg Centre.


VEREIN FÜR THEORIE UND MUSIKALISCHE INTERPRETATION (MDW)
SOCIETY FOR THEORY AND MUSIC INTERPRETATION (MDW)

The Society for Theory and Music Interpretation (MDW) was founded by Ingomar Rainer and Dieter Torkewitz in 2006 at the Institute for Analysis, Theory and History of Music at MDW. Its mission is to support cultural activities in connection with an intensive theoretical reflection. The society organized in 2007 and 2008 the following symposiums: „In the Shadow of Art Work” I. and II. The major goal is to create a unity between art and science. The MDW has given a grant under the label “Univision” to the society in 2009 organizing an interdisciplinary project on music production in the postmodern era under the title „Between arrangements and recycling“. This autumn the project will be developed under the title „Crossover“.
